Visit Nassau

Paradise island with the Atlantis Resort at the background, Nassau, Bahamas

Nassau is a busy city, with tall buildings and narrow roads. A few of the popular landmarks are Fort Charlotte, Queen’s Staircase, and Parliament Square. Fort Charlotte was built by Great Britain in 1640 to protect Nassau from pirates. There are cannons on top for defense, along with old prison cells inside where prisoners were held before being hanged at Gallows Point nearby. The Queen’s Staircase is a row of eight marble steps that lead from street level to the Government House.

Go Snorkelling in Eleuthera

Twin Cove Beach, Eleuthera island, Bahamas.

The best time to go snorkeling is at low tide, as there are more fish and it’s easier to walk around. The water will be shallow enough that you can stand up and get a good look at the reef below.

It is a great idea to do a tour of Andros Island. This will give you an opportunity to see all of this beautiful island and learn more about it’s history, while also getting a close-up look at some of the amazing wildlife that inhabits it.

The best way to experience Exuma is by renting a boat and going for a day trip. You can see some of the most beautiful beaches, explore uninhabited islands, or just relax on deck with your favorite book.

Go swimming with pigs in Pig Beach

If you want to go swimming with pigs, head to Pig Beach on Big Major Cay. The pigs are friendly, and they love playing in the water just as much as we do. You’ll also want to try some of their fresh fruit and vegetables while you’re there!

Climb the Queen’s Staircase

The Queen’s Staircase is a 137-step staircase leading up to Fort Fincastle at the entrance of Nassau. It’s steep, so be sure you’re wearing sturdy shoes and have plenty of water. The climb is worth it though, as it leads you to one of the most iconic views of Nassau Harbour and its surrounding landmass. If you can’t make it up for whatever reason, there are also stairs on each side if you want a shorter hike.

In addition to tasting their delicious beers, you can also take a tour of the facility and learn about how beer is made. They do not serve food at this location, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Shop at the Straw Market

The Straw Market is a must-see when visiting Nassau, and it’s the perfect place to pick up souvenirs or gifts for friends and family back home. With about five miles of stalls, there’s plenty of browsing to be done.

You can find everything from handmade straw goods to cigars. The market opens at 8 am daily and closes at 5 pm, so you’ll want to plan accordingly.

The National Art Gallery of the Bahamas is located on Bay Street and is a beautiful structure that was originally built as an auction house. If you want to know more about Bahamian art then this is a great place to start.

Play golf at Ocean Club Golf Course

Ocean Club Golf Course is an 18-hole course in Nassau. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones and has a well-manicured design with lush greens. The course is challenging enough for experienced players, but also offers a few holes that are easier to play for beginners. Ocean Club was renovated and reopened in 2015 after being closed in 2004.

When you’re not on the golf course, spend some time at one of these other destinations on your Bahamas bucket list.
